Dr. Paul A. Brown, Senior
Pastor
Pastor Paul Brown is the Senior Pastor
of New Covenant Presbyterian Church. After growing up in a Christian
family, he went to
Taylor
University
in Upland
Indiana.
Sensing a call to pastoral ministry
during his high school years, he majored in Religion/Biblical
Literature and History at
Taylor
University.
After graduating in 1978, he attended Dallas Theological Seminary
majoring in pastoral ministries.
Following
his 1982 graduation from DTS with a Th.M. in Pastoral Ministries, he
was ordained in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church after receiving
a call to be the first Pastor of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church
in Lake City,
Michigan.
In
1987 he became the pastor of the Dundalk Presbyterian Church (EPC)
in Baltimore,
Maryland.
During this time, Pastor Brown also
earned his D. Min. in pastoral ministries from Bethany Theological
Seminary in Dothan
Alabama. He was
called in 2004 to be the new senior pastor at New Covenant
Presbyterian Church.
During
his time at New Covenant, Pastor Brown has enjoyed a fruitful
ministry by faithfully expounding the Word of God and being a
faithful shepherd to the saints at New Covenant.
He
also provides pastoral counseling to those living near the church.
Pastor
Brown has taken seminary students from DTS and Westminster Seminary
Dallas campus (now Redeemer Seminary) under his wing as pastoral
interns and has shared his extensive pastoral knowledge with them.
The interns that he has worked with feel
that they have received great practical knowledge and experience by
working with him.
During his time as a student
at DTS, Pastor Brown met Mai Smith. She worked as the switch board
operator at DTS. They married on May 8, 1982. They have two wonderful
adult children.
A
son, Aaron , age 26 and a daughter, Bethany, age 23.
Bethany
is married to Jason Lawrence and they have one son, Jaxon Lawrence,
age 1. Paul and Mai currently reside in the beautiful town of
Forney
TX. During his
spare time, Paul enjoys woodworking, landscaping, and grandparenting
with his wife Mai.
Thom Vars, Pastoral Intern
Thom Vars, Jr. hails from the sunny land of the Tampa Bay area in
Florida, and is happily married to
his wife, Tina. A graduate of Florida
Southern College where he was a former national cross-country
competitor, Thom enjoys being on the go and serving others whenever
opportunity presents itself. He holds a Masters of Theology from
Dallas Theological Seminary and has
a heart for congregational unity within the
universal church and discipleship.
Kenneth Kneip, Pastoral Intern
Kenneth Kneip is one of the pastoral interns
at New Covenant Presbyterian Church. He currently is a student at
Redeemer Theological Seminary (formerly Westminster Theological
Seminary Dallas Campus). He is working on the M. Div degree General
Studies. He graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a
BAS
General Studies in 2002.
In 1996, He was saved by the grace of
God from a life of sinfulness and soon after felt a call into
pastoral ministries. Having worked as a certified sign language
interpreter in the South Texas and Metroplex areas, he enrolled at
WTS Dallas in the summer of 2004. Kenneth was
called as a pastoral intern at New Covenant in the fall of 2008.
Some of his responsibilities include assisting Pastor Brown with the
pastoral care of the saints such as hospital visits, home visits,
and assisting with funerals, He also helps lead the Sunday Morning
worship service.
Currently, he teaches the Y &O Sunday
School class. Some of the topics he has taught include the
Westminster Confession of Faith and an Introduction to World
Religions. Currently, the class is in an in-depth study of the
Gospel of Matthew.
He has also taught the Wednesday Night
Bible Study (Jonah and the Book of Ephesians).
One of his greatest passions is to see
the saints of New Covenant grow in their relationship with Christ
Jesus. He also desires to see the Lord use him to faithfully
shepherd the flock at New Covenant.
In the summer of 2000, Kenneth met the love of his
life, Brenda Bartelli. They were married on August 31, 2002. They
are currently the proud owners of two miniature Dachshunds, Freckles
and Ginger. They currently reside in the beautiful town of Forney,
Texas. When he is not at the church or working for a local
interpreting agency, he can be found troweling the local Half-Price
bookstores, enjoying Chipotle or Freebirds burritos, and playing
with his dogs. He especially enjoys spending quality time with his
beautiful wife, Brenda.
Devon Hamilton,
Director of Music
Devon Hamilton is the Director of Music at New
Covenant Presbyterian Church. He graduated from
Texas
Christian
University
(1958) with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree. He
also received a Master of Music Education Degree (1970).
Devon
has extensive music ministry experience spanning over fifty years.
Formerly, he was the Director of Music at Highland Park Presbyterian
Church (PCUSA) from 1965-1975. Then, he was the Director of Music at
Casa Linda Presbyterian Church (1976-1987). When Casa Linda
Presbyterian Church became New Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA),
he continued on as Director of Music. Devon
also has extensive musical experience outside the Church, he has
served as staff soloist at various funeral homes in the Metroplex
area. He also has performed in radio, television, operas, musicals,
and various social clubs around the Dallas/Fort
Worth area. He has two solo
albums/tapes: “Songs of Faith” and “Favorite Hymns”.
Devon
works closely with Pastor Brown, the pastoral interns, and organist,
Don Reasons to bring a vibrant worship experience to New Covenant.
Devon
was born and raised in
Ft. Worth
Texas.
He met his beautiful bride, Marlene Wilson, at TCU. They were
married in 1957. They have three children: Kevin, Noel and Brenda
and six grandchildren. They currently reside in
Quinlan,
Texas on
the beautiful shores of
Lake
Tawakoni.
Devon
enjoys watching sporting events, playing golf, and exploring the
stock market in his spare time.
